Latest News: BSMQ Open Queensland State Nomination Program

Table of Contents

A flash release issued by Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) announces that, for a very brief window of time, the state has reopened its business and skilled program – albeit, restricted to decision-ready applicants in COVID-19 priority areas.

The program will be open strictly from Tuesday 29th September 2020 until Monday 5th October 2020 and with limited allocations, BSMQ will restrict nominations to those applicants with skills considered critical to the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Skilled Program

Available only to onshore applicants, skills include:

  • The provision of critical or specialist medical services, including air ambulance, medical evacuations and delivering vital medical supplies.
  • Critical skills required to maintain the supply of essential goods and services, including medical technology, crucial infrastructure, telecommunications, engineering and mining, supply chain logistics, aged care, agriculture, primary industry, food production and the maritime industry.
  • Delivering services in sectors critical to Australia’s economic recovery, including financial technology, large scale manufacturing, film, media and television production and emerging technologies, where no Australian workers are available.
  • The provision of critical skills in religious or theology fields.

Priority processing is available for:

  • 491-SBO (Small Business Owners’ Pathway) applications
  • Subclass 190 visa applicants who have worked in their nominated occupation in Queensland for at least 6 months and who have a job offer for 12 months
  • Subclass 491 applicants who have worked in their nominated occupation in a regional area of Queensland for at least 3 months and who have a job offer for 12 months

Following lodgement of Expression of Interest (EOI) each Skilled Program applicant must email to www.migration@qld.gov.au to explain how their skills will meet the Department of Home Affairs “critical skills and sectors” direction, their email including full name, date of birth and EOI number.

Business Program

Available to both onshore and offshore applicants, allocations are limited therefore BSMQ nominations will be restricted to:

  • High-quality applicants related to the COVID-19 economic recovery,
  • Businesses which focus upon productive investment and job creation or
  • Businesses which have a regional investment focus within the business program.

Priority processing is available for:

  • Subclass 132 Significant business History stream
  • Subclass 188 Business Innovation stream
  • Subclass 188 Significant Investor stream
  • Subclass 188 Entrepreneur stream
