NT’s Temporary Closure of GSM Program- Response to Allocation Changes

Reduced Nominations Impact Nomination Applications

MigrationNT’s General Skilled Migration (GSM) program is facing an unexpected challenge due to a notably reduced allocation of nominations from the Australian Government for the 2023-24 program year, in contrast to previous years.

  • Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) visa: 250
  • Skilled Work Regional (Subclass 491) visa: 400
  • Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP): 0

Key Points:

  1. Temporary Closure: In response to the reduced allocation, MigrationNT will temporarily halt the acceptance of new nomination applications starting from 5pm on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
  2. Existing Applications: Applications lodged through the MigrationNT portal prior to the closure time will continue to be assessed under the existing eligibility criteria. Eligible applicants will receive nominations based on these criteria.
  3. Future Reopening: After the assessment of existing applications, the GSM program will be reopened for subclass 491 nomination applications only. These applications will adhere to stricter criteria, details of which will be provided on the official website.
  4. Visa Expiry: Individuals with expiring visas are advised to seek professional guidance regarding their visa options and maintain lawful status during their stay in Australia.
