Update on NT General Skilled Migration (GSM) nomination applications for 2024-25

Update on NT General Skilled Migration (GSM) nomination applications for 2024-25

Limited nominations available for onshore applicants with visa deadlines before 31 December 2025

The 2024-25 program year for the GSM program will end on 30 June 2025. Nomination applications for the 2025-26 program year will open once the NT has received its allocations from the Australian Government.

Offshore applications remain suspended. All applicants who applied before program suspension will receive outcomes before 30 June 2025.

Onshore applications – MigrationNT has completed assessing all onshore applications. This includes those who applied after program suspension with visa deadlines falling before 1 July 2025. MigrationNT has reserved a small number of subclass 491 nominations for eligible onshore applicants with certain visa deadlines falling before 31 December 2025.

For a limited time until 30 June 2025, applications will continue to be accepted by exception for onshore applicants who have the following visa deadlines before 31 December 2025:

  • those who have visas expiring before 31 December 2025 and are not eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa
  • those who are due to become ineligible for the GSM program due to attaining a certain age before 31 December 2025 (e.g. turning 45 or losing points for age, bringing the total migration points to below 65 for the subclass 491 visa).

Those with such visa deadlines should lodge subclass 491 nomination applications without delay, and well ahead of 30 June 2025 as no applications can be accepted after that date, until the new program opens.

Please note that they may not be able to guarantee nominations before visa expiry dates.

Those who are onshore and have visas expiring should seek professional advice on their visa options and ensure that they remain lawful in Australia.
