Important Update: Closure of the Temporary Activity Visa (subclass 408) – Pandemic Event Visa

The Department of Home Affairs has emailed it’s recent announcement about their closure of the Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408), commonly referred to as the Pandemic Event visa. The Pandemic Event visa (408) will be closing to all applicants effective from 1 February 2024.

This announcement comes as the Department of Home Affairs registered a new instrument, LIN 24/003, on 24 January 2024, which repeals LIN 22/046 and marks the conclusion of the Pandemic Event visa program. For detailed information on this legislative change, you can visit the Federal Register of Legislation at this link.

We understand that this news may have implications for many of you, and we want to ensure that you are well-informed about your options moving forward. If you or anyone you know currently hold a Pandemic Event visa (subclass 408) and wish to remain lawfully in Australia, we recommend taking the following steps:

1. Review Your Visa Status:
Check your current visa status and expiration date to determine if you are affected by this closure.

2. Explore Alternative Visa Options:
If your Pandemic Event visa is expiring or no longer available, consider exploring alternative visa options that may be suitable for your circumstances. The Department of Home Affairs provides additional information on visas and eligibility on their official website.

3. Seek Professional Guidance:
Consult with a Registered Migration Agent or an immigration law expert to understand your specific situation and receive personalized guidance on the most suitable visa pathway for you.

For further details and guidance regarding this closure and your visa status, please visit the COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa page on the Department of Home Affairs website or contact our team at Sellanes Clark.
