VETASSESS Changes to Trades Skills Assessment Process

Implementation Date: April 23, 2024

Changes to Application Lodging:

  • Applications will undergo a review to ensure sufficient evidence for assessment.
  • Only ‘assessment ready’ applications will be accepted.
  • Payment for assessment is required only after confirmation of ‘assessment ready’ status.


Changes for Pathway 1 Trade Applicants: For all trades except Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic, Electrician (General), Electrician (Special Class), and Plumber (General):

1. Video Evidence:

  • Applicants must submit videos showcasing trade skills.
  • Detailed instructions on video requirements will be available in the updated Video Guide on VETASSESS website from April 23.
  • Videos will be reviewed by assessors; resubmission may be required if not meeting criteria.


2. Australian Industry Standards Online Assessment:

  • Completion of a short online course on Australian industry standards relevant to the trade.
  • Assessment to gauge understanding of the standards at the course end.
  • Seven days allocated for completion; modules can be repeated if necessary.
  • Access details (username and password) sent via email post application acceptance and fee payment.


3. Technical Interview:

  • Scheduled once online assessment is passed and video evidence requirements met.
  • Interviews can be conducted online or face-to-face at assessment venues.
  • Approximate duration: two hours.
